Maize Road Baptist Church

Our Music Director came to Maize Road Baptist Church in June 1976.  He attended The Ohio State University, as a music education major and works for the State of Ohio.  He directs our worship music, Adult and Youth Choirs, and our instrumentalists.  He works with Jean Tanner, who directs our Pre-School and Children's Choir.

Music Rehearsal Schedule

• Adult and Youth Choir -
• Wednesday Evenings at 7:00 p.m.
• Sunday Mornings at 9:00 a.m.
• Sunday morning rehearsal is short and serves as a review of the previous Wednesday evening.
• Children and Pre-School Choir -
• Sunday Mornings during Sunday School hours.

February Musical Notes

Many years ago, shortly after I first came to Maize Road Baptist Church, one of our church members pulled me aside saying that he wanted to chat with me. The content of his message was this; he didn’t like music. He didn’t like singing, he didn’t like instruments, and he felt that music was a waste of time. He also said that he meant no insult to me, that he was sure that I was a good enough musician and he realized he was unusual in that most people did like music and he tolerated it for their sakes. Typically he sat in the back of the church during services. Not many months later he was sitting toward the front. I happened to be playing a lively tune that someone else was singing. While I was playing I happened to look in his direction and guess what I saw? His foot was tapping a beat to that song better than my own. I never confronted him, but I’ve often thought that God places music within us as well as a desire to praise Him, and that no matter how hard we try to keep it at bay, God will bring it out of us.
