Pastor Brett became our Senior Pastor in October of 2007. He is a graduate of Franklin University, Ashland University, and AShland Theological Seminary. Pastor Brett gave his life to the Lord during his teenage years, answering a call to ministry in 1998. After completing the requirements to become a licensed professional counselor, he entered into a full-time counseling ministry. During this period of time, Pastor Brett sensed that God was developing a pastor's heart within him and Brett answered that call by joining Maize Road Baptist Church as our Family Life Pastor in March of 2002. Brett's heart is to see the community reached with the Good News of Jesus Christ. He is married to Jan and they have three sons Ryan, Adam, and Aryn.
From The Pastor
We are in the second month of a new year. Many of us have determined to make this year’s walk with our Lord deeper, more meaningful, and more consistent. We all know, though, that it’s easy to get our eyes off this goal. I want to share a story with you that points to the result of taking our eyes off the goal.
At the Goodwill Games in Edmonton, Canada, the Jamaican team was participating in the four-by-one hundred meter relay. The third leg for the Jamaican team had a friend who was competing in another event nearby. While the sprinter was waiting for the baton, he looked for a moment to try to catch his friend doing this event. In the next moment, the guy running the second leg of the race came up to him with the baton and ran into him. Needless to say, the race was over for Jamaica because of the lack of focus on one of the team members. He wasn’t focusing on his race. He was looking at somebody else’s. Stop looking at everybody else’s race, and run your own race.
Sometimes we can get our eyes off our own race. There are times when we compare our race, our spiritual growth, to someone else. The spirit of comparison can dampen our resolve to nurture our own relationship with Jesus Christ. Let me encourage you to keep your eyes focused on your own race. Spend time with the Lord in prayer, in reading His Word, and in gathering with other believers in worship and fellowship.
I thank God for His continued blessings in our fellowship, and let’s commit to encouraging one another in our daily walk.
God Bless,
Pastor Brett
